DOULAS HELP FATHERS AT THE BIRTH

Comments Off

Fathers can breathe easier and mothers can have a happier birth by having a doula present at the birth. The recent controversy over whether fathers should attend the birth highlights the problems many couples have faced when the father has felt ‘obliged’ to be there. Some men enjoy the experience but for others it’s excruciating and frightening which can harm the mother and jeopardise their relationship later on.

But if parents have a doula supporting both the mother and the father in the birthing room then both partners can feel safe, happy and secure and the birth will be much less painful and can even be enjoyable. British Doulas in London provides doulas for women giving birth all round Britain to help make this important event safer and happier.

Doulas are kindly, caring women who have been trained to know how to respond to women in labour. They are also experienced mothers themselves. A recent report in the United States showed that caesarean births could be cut by half, labour could be reduced by 25 per cent and the odds of a forceps delivery reduced by 40 per cent if a doula is present.

Top Notch Doulas offers doulas who can help a mother during the birth and also after the birth as they learn to care for a newborn. The agency also runs a doula training coursetaught by Midwifery Trainers.
